Objectives in extension education
Objectives - "Objectives are an expression of the ends towards which our efforts are directed" or ―Objective is a statement of change in knowledge, feeling or reaction we want to bring about in the people."
An objective is that which person, group, or agency sets before itself as an object or condition to be attained.
Objectives and Goals - "Objectives are directions of movement" whereas a goal is "the distance in any given direction one expects to go during a given period of time."
Different levels of objectives
1. Fundamental objectives: The central or ultimate objective of an Extension Worker is "to bring about all-round improvement in the life of clientele. These objectives are generally found in the legislation and characters of an organization. This includes material, moral, civic, and social development. It is to help each individual, each family, and each community achieves the highest level of living that is capable of economically, socially and culturally by means of added self-help through education."
2. General Objectives: These are more define than fundamental objectives which are directly associated with the Extension Service. The general objectives of Extension Education are"
I. To assist people to discover and analyze their problems, their felt, and unfelt needs.
II. To develop leadership among people and help them in organizing groups to solve their problems.
III. To disseminate information based on research and or practical experience, in such a manner that the people would accept it and put it into actual practice.
IV. To keep the research workers informed of the people's problem from time to time, so that they may offer solutions based on necessary research.
3. Working Objectives: These are specific subject matter approaches. It is also called specific objectives. Extension Worker is associated directly with working objectives. Ex: Increase the yield of bananas in a particular village by using tissue-cultured banana plants.
The working objective has three parts:
I. Audience: The people to be changed.
II. Type of Change: Whether the change is desired in knowledge, attitude, or skill.
III. Contact or message: What actually is needed to know, feel or do by the people? Or what you are going to teach?
